stealing goals from other people

i "thought" of a few more.

stole from flyman's wife:
* Establish a house cleaning/keeping schedule and follow it for at least 3 months (consecutive would be great, but not required) (house, any time)

* Donate blood (i can do better, any time)

* Take a cake decorating class (crafts, any time)

* Go to the Blue Bell factory (family, any time)

stole from joyco:
* finish Christmas shopping early

and then some that *i* actually thought of:

* Quit teaching (family, early 2008)

* Call Jessica and Dave once a month for at least six months (friends, any time)

* Read a book club book and actively participate in the discussion (i can do better, any time)

* Eat at Katz' Deli (austin, any time)

* Go to dentist regularly (health, on-going)

* Either use Netflix or unsubscribe (money, on-going)

* Call or email Lisa, even if/when she doesn't respond (family, on-going)

* Get to the point that we can tithe regularly (money, on-going)

* Replace blinds in our bedroom and nursery (home, early 2008)

* Go on a duck tour (austin, any time)

Because of the financial goals, I'm really trying to limit tasks that cost money (like travel!). And I'm wondering how much my goals will change when I become a mom in December, but I guess that's another reason it's good I'm not finalizing this list until mid January. :)

Once I'm done, I'll put in some sort of logical order and renumber, to be published in the frame to the right.

And so it begins....

I have always been a list person. I carry a little notebook in my purse that has an on-going to-do list in the back. So when the gals on the nest started talking about the 101 in 1001 project, I was definitely intrigued. The idea is that you set a goal to complete 101 tasks in a span of 1001 days - that's almost 3 years! Here are some details from the website:
Creating your own 1001 Day Project

------------
The Mission:
Complete 101 preset tasks in a period of 1001 days.

The Criteria:
Tasks must be specific (ie. no ambiguity in the wording) with a result that is either measurable or clearly defined. Tasks must also be realistic and stretching (ie. represent some amount of work on my part).

Why 1001 Days?
Many people have created lists in the past - frequently simple goals such as New Year's resolutions. The key to beating procrastination is to set a deadline that is realistic. 1001 Days (about 2.75 years) is a better period of time than a year, because it allows you several seasons to complete the tasks, which is better for organising and timing some tasks such as overseas trips or outdoor activities.

Some common goal setting tips:
1. Be decisive. Know exactly what you want, why you want it, and how you plan to achieve it.

2. Stay Focussed. Any goal requires sustained focus from beginning to end. Constantly evaluate your progress.

3. Welcome Failure. Frequently, very little is learned from a venture that did not experience failure in some form. Failure presents the opportunity to learn and makes the success more worthy.

4. Write down your goals. It clarifies your thinking and reinforces your commitment.

5. Keep your goals in sight. Review them frequently, and ensure that they are always at the forefront of your thinking.

------------

With the help of THIS website, I was able to calculate a start date based on an end date of our anniversary, 2010. I figure that if I have any hope of being successful, I'm going to need my amazing husband's support. Besides, we share a lot of our goals anyway! So a conclusion date on our anniversary seemed appropriate. We'll start on January 15th, 2008 and be done (hopefullly) by October 12, 2010.

So now I need to get started on a list and have it done by January 15th.
